The Carmel girls' swimming team is on a mission to secure their 40th consecutive Indiana High School State Championship title. On Friday, they took a significant step towards this goal, showcasing their depth and talent in the preliminary rounds. The team's strength was evident in events like the 200 IM, where three swimmers - Ellie Clarke, Leah Debosch, and Lucy Enoch - claimed spots in the A-Final with impressive times. Carmel's dominance extended to five events, securing the top seed after the first day of the meet. The team's star performer was Sweeney, who dominated the 100 fly and 100 breast, despite switching to the 100 fly this year. Carmel's depth and versatility were on full display, with the team holding the top seed in the 200 medley relay and the 400 free relay. However, the competition was fierce, with teams like Fishers and Carroll giving them a run for their money. Fishers' freshman Audrey Wolf and Emily Wolf, the older sister of Audrey, were standout performers, securing spots in the A Finals and showcasing the team's bright future. For Carroll, the meet started tough, but their sprint free group pulled them back into the competition. The team's depth and versatility were on full display, with two juniors, Maris Williams and Kate Fetters, securing top seeds in the 50 free and 200 free relay, respectively. The finals are set for Saturday, with diving prelims at 9 AM Eastern and swimming and diving finals kicking off at 1 PM Eastern.
